FAQ

FAQ

ABOUT THE SETTING
What is Erku?
Erku is a sexy panfandom jamjar where a superstitious supercomputer has created a luxurious island paradise for the beings its glitching transporter pulls from the multiverse. This world is maintained by "Eros Energy," the life energy generated by certain acts of sex and intimacy. There are shades of sci-fi, solarpunk, and false utopia, an ever-shifting simulated environment to offer fresh adventure and challenge, and endless opportunity for players to have a direct influence on the development of the world around them.

What the hell kind of word is Erku?
It's a word that means "two", indicating we're a spiritual sequel game to Lagunbiru, colloquially referred to as "kink bingo." This game is not affiliated with it in any way, except that it uses the same core mechanism: a bingo card of sex acts.

Tell me about this place.
The Nameless Island is on the planet Erku. Erku is not on any star chart you may have access to, and attempts to locate any familiar planets will be met with static and interference -- visual and technological. It's almost like it's in a pocket dimension.

If asked, the robots will say that most information regarding the fall of the previous civilization has been overwritten or lost to corruption over time. Especially chatty AIs might speculate that all things on Erku, even the buildings, suffer when Eros energy is not generated.

In any case, the robots have no name for the city but "the city."

How do characters arrive?
A glitchy teleporter has been scanning the multiverse, looking for something. That something happens to be your characters. Sorry about that. Its scans run periodically - more often now that the Island is bustling with energy! - bringing in batches of strangers. New arrivals "spawn" in the ocean, washing up on the beach... sometimes with hazy memories of having made a brief pit stop in a lab.

What's this about Neuro-Augmentation?
All Islanders receive Neuro-Augmentation upon arrival, which allows them to interact with the Augmented Reality of their environment. Augmentations are typically unnoticable and cannot be removed or tampered with, with certain exceptions. One of those exceptions is Dr. D. Love, the Island's resident robot Mental Health counselor, who can "activate" the Augmentation to inspire feelings of intense, unquenchable desire in the recipient. Islanders who are having trouble accepting the more intimate elements of Island Life may find themselves in Dr. D. Love's office: Healthy Mind, Healthy Body. There's nothing like a professional touch to boost your motivation!

The other exception is if a character leaves the Island, i.e. characters dropped from the game. In that case, all such Augmentations are painlessly and unnoticeably removed unless or until the character is re-apped.

Will there ever be events where Neuro-Augmentations are activated against a character's will?
OOCly speaking, the effects of Neuro-Augmentation (beyond simply allowing characters to interact with Augmented Reality and the Simulation) will always be the player's choice to opt into. ICly, Dr. D. Love decides when characters are in need of his services. Yes, this means you can send your prudish character straight to his office, if you wish! It also means that you won't be forced to acknowledge Neuro-Augmentation in any way if you're not into that.

Can characters leave? What happens if I hiatus or drop?
Characters cannot leave the Island of their own free will. Hiatusing characters may go on "autopilot," simply glitch out of existence for a time, or spend their hiatus at the hospital for treatment and study. Characters who drop may have been spotted wading into the ocean before they disappear.

How about canon updates?
Characters will find themselves drawn to the ocean, wading in until they disappear beneath the waves. They are sucked into a strange rift before they awaken back home. They will lose consciousness and wake up coming out of the water like a new arrival. If characters are unconscious upon return, they will be collected by robots and taken to the hospital to be monitored until they awaken.

More information, as well as an optional Canon Update Report, is available here.

How will new arrivals survive?
Food and other necessities are provided by friendly AI units, along with a stipend of credits to encourage economic success. Residences are provided in the Apartments or House of Worship. Characters will have the option of using Eros energy to refurbish their apartments or buildings to suit their needs.

Can my character find or request a residence away from the Apartments or House of Worship in the Nameless City?
No. The Augur is very invested in fostering a sense of community here in the Nameless City! Fortunately, though all apartments look very much the same from the outside, Augur Rewards can be used to manipulate the inside of a character's living space according to their tastes. Thanks to Augmented Reality, even the size and layout can be changed.

Are there jobs? How do characters make money or acquire new things?
Jobs can be handwaved at robot-run establishments (library, diner, spa, bath house, etc), or negotiated with the players of character-run businesses. A salary in credits, likewise, can be handwaved. Rather not work? Better get used to bartering! As always, new things can be brought into the world through Auspicious Acts.

What is the current condition of the Nameless City?
The Nameless City has been fully upgraded to a luxurious and high-tech Island resort town.

What is the weather like?
The island's tropical climate is very comfortable, but may be interrupted by occasional weather events.

Is there any set scale to the island itself?
The city is a few miles across, but the mysterious outskirts are ever-changing and always seem to be expanding outwards. Surrounding the island is a mysterious fog which causes characters to loop back to where they began if they venture too far out.

Are players allowed to submit locations to the locations page as characters discover/settle in existing buildings, or if it will exclusively be for new acquisitions only, such as those gained through the rewards system?
Within the Nameless City, new businesses and attractions that are intended to be enjoyed by the entire game should be purchased through Augur Rewards. In Simulation City, the environment is greatly influenced by the minds of participating Islanders, so feel free to invent what you need!

Do IC days in the game equate to OOC time? Are there different names for the months and days of the week?
Yes, the game operates on a 1:1 time flow. The city has lost all information regarding alternate month/day names, so it's currently impossible to know the proper date.

Is there an economy? What about currency?
Every Islander receives a modest stipend of virtual currency (credits) which can be accessed via their communication bracelet. Credits can be earned from opportunities that crop up during IC events OR the character can handwave seeking employment at robot-owned businesses or locations such as the cafe, bathhouse, library, etc. to earn an income. Credits are not earned through sex acts. Earning rates are handwaved and otherwise left to player discretion. All IC shops require credits to acquire their goods and services.

Can my character start a business and employ other characters?
Yes! Businesses can be requested from the Augur with completed Auspicious Acts. The Augur will assume partial to full responsibility for staffing and running the business with its robot helpers, unless otherwise requested by the business owner. In either case, these businesses can employ player characters. Businesses with robot helpers may be used for events at any time. Due to our varied schedules, we can not give players a "head's up" about upcoming events involving their business.

EROS ENERGY
Eros energy?
The energy generated when characters become intimate.

Life Forces Of The Rich And Famous: Eros Energy And You, Or How To Revitalize A World Through Sex
Characters receive rewards from The Augur for Auspicious Acts or Acquisitions. The positive (or negative) energy generated from the acts will change and maintain the world around them. It's ultimately up to you what your characters' boning brings to life.

Will my character be able to determine anything about Eros energy via Detect Magic (and similar spells), connection to the spirit world, meditation, etc?
No. The energy and "magic" on Erku will be unlike anything your character has experienced before. When using special abilities or powers to investigate an object or energy source on Erku, one of two things may happen: 1. The character will experience whatever they expect to experience when using the ability, or 2. The information they receive will be unfamiliar or unintelligible to them. If investigating Eros energy directly, it will most resemble electricity. Yes, this may lead to contradicting IC theories on what is really going on "behind the scenes," and that's okay!

A5 & AWARDS
What is A5?
The Auspicious Acts And Acquisitions App on your device (a bracelet) and features what appears to be a bingo card with sex acts, toys, and related concepts depicted on each of its squares. These things, your app tells you, will bring the most fortune. And they are different for everyone.

Can I delete A5 from the bracelet?
No.

How do rewards work?
Comment on the Augur Rewards page with your A5 linked and describe what act(s) you are cashing in for a reward. ICly, characters can speak to the Augur to request a boon, or they will be notified via a message that they have now received the deed to a house, or that a motorcycle is waiting for them in the hangar, etc. Please see the Augur Rewards page for more information.

A bingo reward can be the development of new or existing powers, are these canon powers or can they pick up powers that aren't native to their canon?
Canon powers should be prioritized, but non-canon and setting specific powers can be purchased via Augur rewards. Check the Augur rewards page for details!

Can we submit suggestions for kinks to be included on A5?
We love creativity - absolutely feel free to leave us a suggestion! Not every suggested kink will be added, as we try to avoid overlap.

Can we set kinks to maybes during A5 generation?
For the time being, we are only taking yes/no. However, events frequently include opportunities to swap out or exchange A5 acts from your BINGO card, so you won't have to be stuck with any kink you feel particularly uninspired about!

How many bingo squares can be checked off in a thread?
One thread per square. If submitting for multi-kink bingo in a single thread bonus, indicate which squares were hit when making your reward request. Only one square on the bingo card will be checked off, however.

Does the act have to be inherently sexual to count on the bingo card?
For bingo squares, something sexual or erotic involving your character needs to happen regarding the theme of the square; it's not enough to just touch on the theme in general. It does not have to be explicit.

Can other characters see when a square has been completed on someone's card?
Squares are marked and can be seen on projected images of A5 cards, yes. The marking can take the shape/image of your choice.

Let's talk about dying during sexy times or filling snuff/necrophilia bingo squares.
Characters can waive IC consequences for deaths of an erotic nature. More information, as well as an optional Death Report, is available here.

Can you buy immunity from death as an Augur reward?
Characters wouldn't be able to use the bingo square to avoid death by itself. Instead they could trade a square to waive or reverse any IC consequences for the death. More information, as well as an optional Death Report, is available here.

If you get a bingo or complete a square in a TDM thread, can you still use it for an Augur rewards submission if the person you were threading with doesn't end up apping in?
Complete TDM threads that fill a square or bingo on the A5 card are eligible for rewards regardless of whether the other party applied to the game. This will be judged on a case by case basis and may be denied if the mods perceive its use is circumventing rules or goes against the spirit and intent behind the rewards system.

When checking off a bingo square, does it matter if you're the performing or receiving party? For example, someone has 'coercion' on their card. Which side of it do they have to play, or does it matter as long as the theme itself is met?
Either side is acceptable, so long as the theme of the square is present. If both parties have the same square, participation can check it off for both of them.

When you cash in a bingo square for an award, can you later use that square as part of a bingo?
Yes! Even if you cashed in Cuddling for something, you can also include that square in another full bingo, it doesn't disappear!

Can I cash in a multi kink bingo for a CRAU pet, new pet, or pet that didn't originally fit in inventory limits when I applied?
Absolutely.

Can I use a Reward to send something back home?
Unfortunately, Augur's transporter is quite glitchy and only works one way at this time. Nothing can be sent back to the character's home world.

BRACELETS & TECHNOLOGY
What's the level of technology like? Sounds like this old civilization was pretty advanced.
We're going full-tilt sci-fi, from VR holodecks to artificial intelligence. Whether it works properly is another story entirely.

So are these bracelets, like, the network or something?
Bingo! You can make audio, video, and text posts through holographic and voice-synthesizing technology. They can be locked to individuals or broadcast to the whole of the Island -- and whoever else may be out there. Posts can be hacked by characters with sufficient levels of tech-savviness.

What about user IDs?
The user ID can be set up or given automatically, and it can be changed at will. Tech-savvy characters will have an easier time tracing the information, but one can try to pass as another. Posting anonymously is acceptable.

How do characters understand each other and communicate?
The bracelet contains an auto-translator.

Can I delete 5A from the bracelet?
No.

Can my character talk to The Augur?
Yes, and its responses will be cryptic. Please direct all IC communication to the Augur through appropriate channels for IC responses.

Are the local robots friendly?
The Island's robots are friendly and love to help! All of them seem really invested in biological lifeforms banging, though. Huh. Fancy that.

Can the robots be damaged/fought? What are the consequences?
Yes, they can be damaged. If destroyed, they will be instantly replaced by additional robots. Characters attacking robots will be cheerfully restrained and transported back to their place of residence for a time-out and a nap.

Can the bracelet be removed?
Yes. However, characters will lose its automatic translation feature and be unable to understand people who don't speak the same language until they put it back on.

Can we dismantle the bracelets?
Yes, they can be taken apart and it's contents are fairly mundane. Destroyed devices are replaced the next day, and a character attempting to tamper with theirs will find themselves without it's functions for the rest of that day.

Does the bracelet adapt to shapeshifting characters?
The bracelet will change size to match a shapeshifter's current shape. A character can take it off if they want and it will return to "normal", but they will be without it and its effects until it is put back on.

How do characters obtain everyday items?
Dispensers have been programmed by robots (who, mind you, don't know everything about human civilization). They'll dispense anything you ask - to a point. They're more likely to be able to produce pervertibles and aphro-laced food and drink, but they might not be as familiar with specific items. For complex requests, consider an Augur Reward.

SIMULATION CITY
What is Sim City?
Sim City is the "digital domain" of the Nameless Island. The Augur has created a totally immersive world for her precious Islanders to experience at their leisure. The setting will shift periodically (every 3-4 months) and is decided on the Augur's whim by pulling memories, ideas, and lore from every Islander's mind... and then some. That means it could end up being anything from high fantasy to horror to outer space!

Each setting will bring with it a short story arc to participate in, a puzzle to solve, some PVP conflict to enjoy, or something else along those lines! The Augur will also have a Rewards shop for some fun in-Sim perks.

So it's like an AU?
Not exactly! Your character will probably remember they came from the Nameless Island, and they will remember everything about the Sim when they return to the Nameless Island as if they have just finished playing a very realistic VR video game.

You can, however, AU your characters into the setting if that is more fun for you. Other characters may remember them, though!

One thing to note: even though it's like a video game, and even though your character remembers every time that it's like a video game as soon as it's finished, while in the Simulation - everything feels very real. Pain, pleasure, injury, fear, and death will all be experienced as if actually happening, so even very logical characters will have a hard time convincing themselves to be apathetic about it. Reality is just a product of our minds, after all!

What happens to our safe havens and homes awarded by the Augur?
Safe havens and character homes will manifest in Sim City, giving characters a safe place to stay, while characters without safe havens may have to scrounge for shelter and supplies. Safe havens CAN shift in appearance to match the setting, but they don't have to. No NPCs in the setting will remark on how unusual or large or out of place they are.

Because they're now in the digital realm, characters have the freedom to dream up how their safe havens look and what they contain, as far as tools, materials, and resources (including furnishings) that your character needs for the Simulation. However, Augur Rewards are still required to, for example: increase their size, add gardens or laboratories, etc.

Are we forced to participate in Sim City?
Nope! You can participate in as many or as few Sim City events as you like, whenever you like. You can even drop in and out of any given Simulation.

Does my character have to enter the Simulation voluntarily?
Nope! Characters can choose to participate in a Simulation, but if you want to participate and your character just doesn't, you can simply say they were glitched in.

If my character is in Sim City, doesn't that mean they can't participate in events in the "real" Nameless City?
Nope! A portion of every character's consciousness is uploaded into the Simulation. Thanks to Neuro-Augmentation, characters can experience both Sim City and the Nameless City simultaneously. They will operate like two of the same character existing in separate spaces, unaware of the other's actions. When a Simulation ends, that portion of the character's consciousness returns to them along with their memories.

Does flinging my character's consciousness around like that have any ill effects for my character's brain/mental state?
While we may play around with this idea in future events, such happenings will always be opt-in!

What if my character dies in the Simulation?
It will feel just as terrifying to them as if it's really happened! (Perhaps worse, depending on the character.) Characters will awake in their Nameless City abodes as if they've just come out of an incredibly harrowing nightmare, and they may feel sick and achey for a few days.

FLORA & FAUNA
Is there plantlife?
Yes! Island plantlife is lush and tropical. The sleek, futuristic technology of the Nameless City blends seamlessly with vegetation in a "solarpunk" vibe. Outside of the city, Islanders can explore the densely forested mountains.

Are there any animals? Birds? Fish?
Yes! Many creatures have been requested by previous Islanders, including monsters and cryptids which lurk in the mountains outside the city. More about these can be found on the Flora and Fauna page.

Can fantasy flora or fauna be brought to the world (such as chocobos), or do we need to stick to generic species?
Absolutely! Without personalized touches from characters' canons, things would be a lot more boring, don't you think? They can materialize a little bit at a time.

CHARACTERS
What sort of character can I app?
No fandom OCs, genderbends, or canon AUs. Please have an English translation available for your canon. Silent protagonists and malleable protagonists (Persona, Mass Effect, etc.) are acceptable.

Is there an age restriction for characters?
Yes. Characters must be 15 or older. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis, where applicable. CRAU from a previous game does not constitute an exception if the character is canonically under 15.

Are duplicates allowed?
Only if the canon material is distinctly different - for instance, the Fullmetal Alchemist manga and the 2003 TV series, or the MCU and a comic counterpart. As far as canon material is concerned, only official canon variations of characters will be considered. The same player may not play a duplicate of their character, duplicates are intended to allow other players to play alternative versions of the character.

CRAUs?
Yes. There will be a section on the app for you to add relevant details, as well. Please note that, while we understand that their experiences may have had significant effects on them, the character should still clearly be recognizable as their original version. CRAU powers or abilities that rely on the technology or magic from another game are not transferrable to Erku (e.g.: moon phases from Prismatica, gembonds from Noctium, etc).

Original characters from our own worlds, D&D worlds, MMOs, etc.?
Of course!

There's a fan-translated version of my canon, is that okay?
Characters from fandoms with accessible English translations will be accepted under the same rules as any other canon.

How many characters per person?
At the moment, four characters maximum per person. You can app up to two characters per cycle.

Is there a character cap? A cast cap?
There is no game-wide character cap. There is no cast cap at this time, but that is subject to change.

Do I need to humanize my alien/robot/alien robot/etc.?
Humanization is not necessary. Characters are automatically reduced to a human scale within the confines of The Nameless City, but can revert to their full size outside the city limits.

My alien/robot/vampire/werewolf/succubus/etc. needs ____ to survive.
Synthetic substitutes are made available, although you're welcome to run player plots to obtain the biological materials necessary.

How are powers nerfed?
Everything within reason. Canon powers that are world-breaking (including weapons and magics of mass destruction) must be permanently nerfed, and players can choose to nerf their character's more significant powers so they can work with the Augur to regain them. Otherwise, we allow players to determine for themselves whether their character's powers and/or inventory should be nerfed or kept intact. You can determine it for yourself, and if mods disagree, we'll offer up a suggestion to work things out.

My character has implants/modifications keeping them alive (or slowly killing them), what about those?
They'll be stabilized (though not necessarily comfortable) in more or less the same condition they left.

My character is a ghost or intangible entity, do they get a body?
They'll be given a physical body to allow interaction with other characters.

How many characters from the same canon can one person play?
We don't have a specific limit to how many characters a player can have from a single canon, but we may deny an app for a character if we deem them to be too close to a character that player already plays at our discretion. We will allow players to play multiple characters from the same canon provided there is enough distance between their characters.

ACTIVITY
What's AC like?
10 network comments or 5 log comments. Mixing and matching up to two threads is acceptable.

Can IC inbox threads be used for AC?
Inbox threads can be used for AC, along with Sexscape Navigator threads. However, inbox threads cannot be used for Augur Rewards.

Can I use a thread that started last month for AC this month?
As long as the thread hasn't been used for AC before, if the timestamps match the current month, the thread is acceptable.

I just got accepted to the game! Do I need to post AC?
AC is check-in only for the month of your acceptance, but be sure to add your information to the AC Sheet! See the Activity Page for more details.

GAME MECHANICS
Can characters leave? What happens if I hiatus or drop? How about canon updates?
Characters cannot leave the Island of their own free will. Hiatusing, canon updating, and dropping will result in a trip back to the hospital building they arrived in, where they will be studied until further notice. This trip may cause temporary or permanent amnesia, and even a change in physical appearance.

Is playing out smut mandatory?
No. Most events will have a sexual theme and we encourage players to seek out intimacy between characters, but you can fade to black as often as you like, or stick closer to the erotic and intimate rather than the explicit. Graphic smut is not required in a thread to earn rewards. Players of especially reticent characters may consider sending them to Healthy Mind, Healthy Body for a little therapeutic encouragement!

How girl get pragnet?
Radiation renders characters temporarily infertile. Likewise, there are no STDs to worry about; they've been cured along with all other ailments.

Can characters die? What happens?
Characters will die when they are killed. Dead bodies and associated gore will be swiftly cleaned up by robots, and characters will respawn a week later in the sea. Subsequent deaths will result in discovery of wooden limbs, exposed bone, weakness in sunlight, and other grotesque mutations that last for one day per number of deaths. More information, as well as an optional Death Report, is available here.

Can you buy immunity from death as a Augur reward?
Characters wouldn't be able to use the bingo square to avoid death by itself. Instead they could trade a square to waive or reverse any IC consequences for the death. More information, as well as an optional Death Report, is available here.

What time zone does the game run on?
PST. That's GMT-7.

When does the TDM go up? Is it considered canon?
The TDM goes up on the 18th of every month and are open to toplevels from both current and prospective players. The prompts and interactions are considered game canon.

When do reserves open?
We no longer take reserves. Apps will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

When do apps open?
Rolling applications are always open! Submit your app at any time. Mods will issue acceptances on a weekly-or-so basis.

Regarding tags on the comms...
We will use the format "Series: Character name" for both the log and network comms. Everyone responding to the post may use their tag.

INVENTORY & VEHICLES
Let's talk inventory.
You can bring up to 6 items. Sets of clothing count as a single item. There is no size limit, and canon pets take up a single slot. Weapons are allowed. Vehicles are also allowed, but they will be stored in a special hangar (see below). Very large vehicles (mecha-sized) will not function within city limits unless otherwise specified in an event, and large companion animals such as horses or dragons can be kept in the stables or in the wilderness surrounding the City.

Are large or very powerful weapons allowed?
Yes, but large-scale weapons will not be effective against Augur-requested items and city structures unless otherwise specified in an event.

What if I want to bring a Gundam?
Then congratulations, my good bro, you can keep that Gundam. Large vehicles, mobile suits, etc., will manifest in a hangar on the outskirts of the City. They will cease to function if brought into the City proper, but they can be used to explore surroundings, such as the forests and oceans. Gundams and similar vehicles may also manifest in Simulations where appropriate (perhaps even as dragons or horses!).

My character has a (pet/vehicle/weapon/special reward item) from their CRAU instance. Can they bring that as part of their inventory?
No. We'd prefer that inventory slots are relegated to canon items only.

Do vehicles/weapons we arrive with or request come pre-loaded with fuel and ammunition?
As they say, bingo. You're welcome to a full tank of fuel and the maximum ammo your vehicle comes with, but subsequent refills/resupplies have to be obtained through rewards.

I figured it would cost a bingo since it's a bigger infrastructure request, but it's awesome to hear that it's possible. Thanks mods! 8)b
