In that case, I was wondering about including a D&D themed addition:
A box of books is added to the library or somewhere useful for a themed event. They are all labelled Workbooks For The Aspiring Magic Practitioner, and spending a total of 48 hours over a period of 6 days or fewer grants the reader 1 cantrip, which is chosen from the following:
Once someone begins using a book, it cannot be traded to anyone else (all the text gets faded and warped to anyone else looking at it.) Additionally, once the cantrip is learned, it forms the basis for the owner's first spellbook, into which future spells can be transcribed if shared or learned in some other way. (Maybe one of the books is cursed? Or maybe the lot of books cannot take spells that harm, just harmless or kink-related magic?)
And for the second square: Displacer Beasts now roam the forests and jungle beyond the city. Their hides can be converted into a cloak of displacement after 1 in-game month and an exchange of a lot of credits to the robots (~2000, though I know we're not tracking this precisely!)
